LET’S PLAY MUSIC! My love for teaching is the bedrock of my musical foundation, and I take my responsibilities as an educator as seriously as my craft as a performer.  Getting to work with other musicians looking to grow their own expressive voices is the highlight of my career, and I’ve been fortunate to know a wonderful a wonderful community of students in Seattle and beyond!

Evan’s studio is a place where fun and engaging music study leads to lifelong learning!

My studio facilitates creativity, and I aim to bring out each individual’s voice and musicianship and allow them to resonate with their instrument to the fullest extent. I follow my students’ interests in developing and refining skills – recognizing that materials and topics that inspire each unique person are always the best path toward long-term musical growth. I don’t subscribe to a one-size-fits-all curriculum or a rigid set of books and exercises, but help students along their own path while drawing from self-guided exercises, relevant studies, and a continued focus on sound. I encourage students to approach learning curiously and try to be a catalyst for music exploration and mastery.

I bring a deep well of knowledge of different musical styles to my studio and encourage both breadth and depth of study. I commonly perform in classical, jazz, and popular music idioms both as an interpreter and improviser, and love bringing this flexibility to my students as well. Whether my students want to perform across different genres and styles or focus efforts on a core pursuit, it is my goal to help them find their own pathway on the instrument. I see music study as a lifelong individual journey that can also form lasting bonds with peers and collaborators.

Fun, Engaging, Personalized!

My Seattle studio community is the heart of my musical career, and I’ve been lucky to work with hundreds of people on their own musical journeys! I truly love getting to talk about music and help people of any age find their own voice.

I have over two decades of teaching experience and a hold a degree in music education. I’m also an active performer, continually looking to grow my own musical experience to bring new viewpoints and ideas back to my teaching.

I maintain a deep commitment to my students and my studio. If you are looking to develop your voice on the saxophone or clarinet, I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you more about my teaching and how to join my musical community.

Student Accomplishments and opportunities

My mission as a teacher is to help students achieve their personal goals and develop a lifelong passion for music. While my studio philosophy is to look inward toward intrinsic goals, my students’ continued study often results in accomplishments such as placements in top school bands (including some of Seattle’s storied jazz programs), performances with All-State ensembles, selection to State Solo & Ensemble Festival, and acceptance to competitive music schools and colleges. Many of my students also continue to play music recreationally in college and beyond, and some have garnered considerable scholarships as a result of their studies.  In addition to weekly lessons, my studio offers recital and performance opportunities, festival and contest preparation, collaborative piano coordination, guidance with equipment purchases, student recommendation letters, and access to proprietary instructional materials.
